The History of Twitter

In March of 2006, Jack Dorsey sent out the first tweet on Twitter. Ten years and over 350 million users later, it’s hard to imagine a world without Twitter. But who created this social media giant? Dorsey came up with the original idea for Twitter while working on a short-term project at podcasting company Odeo. He envisioned a service that would allow people to send short updates to a group of friends, which he originally called “status.” Odeo co-founder Williams took Dorsey’s idea and ran with it, turning it into a full-fledged social networking platform.

The First Tweet

Twitter is one of the most popular social networking platforms on the internet. Way before Tik Tok was a thing. In 2008, Twitter launched its official website and introduced some essential features, such as @replies and hashtags. The following year, Twitter raised over $200 million in funding, which it used to expand its team and improve its product. In 2010, Twitter hit a milestone when it announced that it had amassed over 100 million active users. The platform has continued to grow in popularity in the years since, and is used by millions of people worldwide.
